Post George Floyd's murder, The 13th became the most watched documentary on Netflix. People were seeking to learn, understand, become better allies to the black community. When the world witnessed Floyd's murder, it was during the pandemic shutdown. The world had nothing to do but witness the murder, feel the shock, and many people sought to do better at understanding black history in America. Because of the documentaries importance and demand, Netflix made it available for free on YouTube.
The 13th is a fantastic in depth look at the 13th Amendment. Ava DuVernay is the producer. She is also known for the award winning How They See Us, and Selma.
