Welcome to SCRENGOAT.

A student left an empty bag of chips in my classroom. Food isn't allowed. So, naturally, I turned it into a horror film.

Here's how I did it.

First, I downloaded a horror-style font from DaFont and installed it using Font Book.

For the animated title, I used After Effects and exported it with an RGB plus Alpha channel, so the text had a transparent background and could sit right over my footage.

And I used a scratch wipe transition to finish off the movement.

Next, I found a cockroach on green screen. But the shadows made the ultra key effect look messy, so I switched to Premiere Pro's new Object Mask tool to isolate the cockroach.

then I color-graded the footage using a adjustment layer to take the bright classroom colors down a notch.

A red overlay added to the final horror look. Then I cut to black and timed flickers to the music to build suspense.

The lesson? a few editing techniques can turn almost anything into a horror film.

What ordinary object can we turn into a horror film next?
